What do you do, and what do you want to do?
Before you can take control of your life you have to know who you are; your attitudes, thoughts, ambitions, your good and bad points. For information on how to set about gathering information on who you are, use this link.
- You need to know what you actually do, so keep a time log. Write down what you do, how long you do it for and how you feel about it. A typical time record sheet has three columns at the top and the hours along the side. The three columns at the top are:
- Time used/activity.
- Roles played.
- Comments.
- Identify and clarify the roles you play in your life.
- Ask yourself, if you had more time, what would you do with it? It is vital to know what you actually enjoy doing, what gives you satisfaction and then to look for ways to fit more of the good things into your life.
Using your time chart, ask yourself why do you do what you do?
Ask yourself why you don’t like the things you don’t enjoy doing and look for ways to make them less onerous.
- Is it possible to delegate?
- Or could you simply drop those things that don’t give you any satisfaction?
- Ask yourself how you could do more of what you enjoy.
